2 Samuel 20:9-12
9 And Joab said to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him.
10 But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.
11 And one of Joab's men stood by him, and said, He that favoureth Joab, and he that is for David, let him go after Joab.
12 And Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a cloth upon him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.
Passing by the offices of the N.Ireland version of "Disneyland News", more commonly known as the Belfast Telegraph. One of their advertisements for tomorrows Sunday Life newspaper read, "POLICE DRAW BLANK IN DONALDSON MURDER".
My mind was drawn to the Bible passage describing how the scheming, ruthless Joab quickly dispatched Amasa when he perceived him to be a threat to his position and power. The corpse of Amasa proved to be an embarassing hindrance to Joab`s plans, but one of his underlings utilised the historically proven method of getting away with murder.....he carried out a literal cover up.
The murder of Denis Donaldson is a potential embarassment for many in N.Ireland and London. No doubt next week will see the equivalent of a 21st century cover up. The local press will ignore the matter. The Lundies of both Unionist parties will say nothing.
As Denis Donaldson was reportedly "an agent of HMG" I would have thought it incumbent upon the 2 Unionist Lundy parties to insist upon the immediate expulsion of the IRA from the government of N.Ireland until the matter has been resolved!
Perhaps PopeLundy1 could publicly address the matter in New York, when he travels there with Marty as is reported in the press. Any thing stated publicly at the prestigous world famous Waldorf Astoria hotel is sure to get quite a bit of press coverage.
I am sure Joab was astute enough to keep a very close eye on the underling who was so quick to cover up the evidence. It would be very interesting to know how Joab dealt with him. Meanwhile the Lord was preparing Solomon to deal with Joab!Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
