You cannot help wondering if unwarranted media attention contributed to his drink problems. It may not of course but who can be sure?
George Best wearing the red of Man U.
This is an interview with Best from the 1970`s I think. Whenever George Best was a kid who just wanted to play football I am sure he never in his wildest dreams imagined "celebrity status" contained such a downside.In the early 1980`s I was standing at traffic lights in New York`s Times Sq when the woman in the picture below stood right beside me.
It is Lauren Bacall a very famous actress. She crossed the road right beside me and went into a theatre just down the street where she was appearing in a play with a co-star called Harry Guardino.
It never come into my head to pester her or ask for an autograph she was just an ordinary lady going about her own business.
She has a very infamous louse for a cousin.
A few nights later I watched her and her fellow actors leave the theatre through the stage door. There was quite a large crowd of fans waiting to see her and get autographs.
She appeared to be very gracious to them all then she and Harry Guardino got into a very big chaffeur driven limo and drove of.
Now it appears some of the leading players in the VES are going to be turned into "Celebrities" via books and possibly movies. I wonder how they will all handle their new found "celebrity status?"
Especially when you consider Rupert is still around and still possibly quite dangerous.
It is much better being an unknown person don`t you think?
Moses knew all about "celebrity culture" and he wisely rejected it.
Heb 11
23By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.
24By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
25Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
27By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
