New unionist dissidents step out into open [Published: Thursday 20, September 2007 - 07:32]
By Noel McAdam and Adrain Rutherford
The first public steps towards the formation of a new unionist grouping to oppose the power-sharing devolved government have now emerged.
But there appear to be divisions among disaffected unionists over whether a formal party should be established or, at least at this stage, a pressure group to act as a focal point.
Some argue that the group should be ready to stand if Prime Minister Gordon Brown calls a snap General Election, or decides to go to the country in spring.
But others argue that a committee could act as a focal point to test the strength of opposition to the Executive headed by the DUP and Sinn Fein.
Former senior DUP figure Jim Allister addressed the gathering of around 100 in Moygashel, near Dungannon, last night and described the situation as a " work in progress".
But Mr Allister would have to stand down as an MEP to run in a Westminster fight and could risk losing his high profile while the next European election is not until 2009.
The meeting, in the village's Orange hall, was also attended by former DUP councillors Leslie Cubitt and Robin Sterling and Willie Frazer of the victims' group FAIR.
Mr Allister declined to answer questions when the meeting broke up around 10.30pm, but read a prepared statement which said: "It is clear to me from this meeting, and others, that far from abating, unease and opposition among grassroots unionists to the present DUP/Sinn Fein government is increasing. The task now is to effectively channel and direct this opposition. This is a work in progress."
Former DUP councillor Walter Millar said there was a "lot of discontentment" within unionism, especially within the ranks of the DUP, and people believed they had been conned.
"Fears of splitting the unionist vote by a new party are unfounded because they won't be voting for the DUP or UUP again.
"Unless they have something that they can vote for which represents their interests they will not be voting again," he said
Limavady councillor Mr Cubitt argued that his former party is now in " complete disarray" because it had "told lies".
He added: "I now intend to let people know exactly what is happening. People think Ian Paisley is not hard enough and I forecast that if Dr Paisley lasts to Christmas as First Minister he will be lucky."
Mr Frazer said the meeting reflected discontentment with the " unacceptable" political situation. "Basically we have the IRA sitting in government. There certainly is a market for a new party."
DUP MP Gregory Campbell has said, however, said he was not concerned about the formation of any new anti-Agreement unionist party.

U-turn forced Paisley to quit by Alana Fearon
The dramatic u-turn in Ian Paisley's “no mercy” approach to terrorism in the North forced him to stand down as Moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church, according to the founder of a north Belfast Church. For Eric Smyth, founder of the Jesus Faith Mission Church on the Limestone Road, Friday's announcement that Paisley was stepping down as leader of the Free Presbyterian Church came as no great surprise. The former DUP man admitted he felt let down by Paisley's decision to “share power with Sinn Féin IRA” and said it was this change of heart which had cost him the support and respect of his followers. The former Belfast Mayor lambasted ‘the big man’ for his dual role as minister and politician and said big changes are imminent within the Free Presbyterian movement. According to Mr Smyth, many of the elders within Paisley's Church never wanted the First Minister to become involved in politics.
New Rules And he foresees a new rule forbidding all elders and ministers from becoming involved in the political arena after Paisley steps down in January. “As far as I'm concerned Paisley has let us all down and the sooner he stands down the better,” Mr Smyth said. “He took a stand for more than 50 years and made all his followers support him and now suddenly over night it has all changed. He has gone back on everything he ever preached and there was no way he could continue as leader although I do think he should have stood down years ago. “But as history shows, those who think they are great in the eyes of others find it hardest to relinquish power. “For years we could have been sent to jail for fighting against terrorism and now he is sitting down with the worst crowd of all. “He has undermined his principles and his followers and now he has to pay the price.” Mr Smyth admitted Paisley's decision to step down after 56 years was a “very sad and sorry state of affairs”. But he said watching the big man sitting with Martin McGuinness made him appear like a “complete hypocrite”. “This is not the Paisley I knew and I will be the first to admit I never wanted this to happen,” he said. “But everybody knows the IRA has not gone away. “It may have decommissioned but its members are still at large and they are still terrorists in my books. “I think Ian will realise just how much he has damaged his reputation come the next election.”
Me thinks that the suits and perhaps the lady suits are now standing in line for a "perhaps a "cash "HANDOUT"but not to be fooled the person ( s ) ready to perhaps as they say...SPILL THE BEANS"......And should that happen perhaps the suits "ALL THE SUITS "will have to be taken to the cleaners ..dirty spots beans cause don't you know? developing............... Paisley Jnr must reveal full extent of lobbying for developer: SDLP Email Article Print Version Search Most Emailed Most Read

By David Gordon
Junior Stormont Minister Ian Paisley Jnr was last night facing calls to spell out the full extent of his lobbying on behalf of prospective Giant's Causeway centre developer Seymour Sweeney.
The DUP politician has been a champion of a number of Mr Sweeney's projects, particularly the controversial Causeway project.
Mr Paisley Jnr could not be contacted for comment last night, but continues to defend his right to speak up for a businessman in his constituency.
The Belfast Telegraph has learned that the MLA gave evidence at a 2005 planning appeal in support of a housing development proposed by Sweeney, who is also a DUP member.
He has also supported him publicly on a contentious pub development project and a legal challenge against Department of the Environment development framework, the Northern Area Plan.
Mr Paisley Jnr confirmed yesterday to the BBC that he had lobbied for a driftnet licence on behalf of a north coast fisherman whose crew included Mr Sweeney and two of his relatives. The politicians said he had done so because he believed in the case. He also confirmed he had been lobster fishing with the developer.
The DUP has faced controversy since its Environment Minister Arlene Foster last week announced that she was "of a mind" to grant planning permission to Mr Sweeney's Causeway visitor centre blueprint.
SDLP MLA John Dallat last night said: "It's time for the Minister to make a full disclosure on his lobbying on behalf of his party colleague." Another quote by Joe Palooka... "THE END IS NEAR" The end that is sweeping the country.

Found this post at Christ My Hero!
The following letter was sent from the Southern Presbytery of the Reformed Presbyterian Church to the First Minister, the Rt Hon. Dr. I. Paisley.
Dear Dr Paisley, We have been asked to write on behalf of the Southern Presbytery of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Ireland to express our deep sense of concern in the following terms.
Since your acceptance of the office of First Minister of Northern Ireland, we have not yet heard of any indication that, as one who has long professed the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, you are intending to resist the implementation of any of the laws supporting homosexual behaviour. These laws include provisions giving to those engaged in same-sex partnerships rights to goods and services which Christians, in certain businesses and service industries, will be unable to provide with a good conscience.
May we respectfully remind you that your first responsibility is to the Lord Jesus Christ as 'the prince of the kings of the earth' (Rev.1:5). Civil government is not spiritually and morally neutral and is not independent of the authority of the Word of God. Your primary obligation is to uphold the Law of God as the standard of right and wrong in the public domain.
To participate in implementing legislation that promotes sin is to participate in rebellion against the Lord Jesus Christ. The fact that the higher authorities in Westminster or Brussels may require it is no justification; 'Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye' (Acts 4:19); 'we ought to obey God rather than men' (Acts 5:29). Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not bow down to the golden image despite the fact that the human law requiring it was crystal clear (Dan.3:16-18). Many of the martyrs lost their lives rather than participate in legally required sin. They did not appeal to 'the political realities of the situation' to justify compromise of Biblical principle. John the Baptist lost his life over what some might regard as a minor moral issue.
In calling upon you to raise a testimony to the need to bring our laws into conformity to the Law of God, as well as urging you to oppose the Sexual Orientation Regulations generally, we would also mention two other specific matters.
Firstly, we are greatly troubled that at this year's 'Gay Pride' parade in Belfast a new low was reached by the unhindered display of a placard blaspheming the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. As you know, your government subsidises this obnoxious event and yet, to date, we have not heard of you or your party resisting this iniquitous misuse of tax-payers' money. Will you be writing to the DCAL minister, Mr Edwin Poots, and to the Director of the Northern Ireland Events Company to object to the funding of this parade? Has a complaint from you been lodged with the Parades Commission?
Secondly, regarding the consultation on the Gender Goods and Services Directive, may we ask what efforts you intend to make to oppose the transgender rights proposals as a whole and also to ensure that there are safeguards for churches and Christian organisations?
For a Christian, the approach of 'I am only obeying orders' simply will not do. Our first loyalty must always be to Christ and His Word. Given your high profile, failure to practice this on your part will encourage Christians to follow your compromise and take the path of least resistance to secure a quiet life. The evangelical cause will be further weakened in Northern Ireland and the salt will have lost yet more of its savour (Matt.5:13).
As this letter deals with public matters, it is an open one to the extent that we intend to make it available in Christian circles. Be assured, however, that in fairness to you we will make equally available any reply you may send to us.
Assuring you of our prayers 'for all that are in authority' (1 Timothy 2:2).
Yours sincerely,
Rev Barry Galbraith (Moderator) Rev Philip Murphy (Acting Clerk) --------
PAISLEY MAY GIVE HIS WOULD BE BOOTERS HIS SIZE 15 PAISLEY "BOOT" AND STAY PUT AS HEAD OF FPC.....HE STAYS THEY GO MOST LIKLY......... Wait and see, says Paisley on church role [Published: Tuesday 25, September 2007 - 13:35]
By Sam Lister
Ian Paisley today refused to rule out remaining leader of the church he founded.
The First Minister was quizzed about his future as a religious leader but would only say: "You'll have to wait and see."
Speaking at the Ulster Fry fringe event, sponsored by the Belfast Telegraph, at Labour's autumn conference, he also refused to be drawn on whether he would stand down as an MP if Gordon Brown called a snap election.
But the DUP leader was quite clear on one thing and that was that he will not be publicly shaking hands with Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, despite them being dubbed the "Chuckle Brothers" because of their close relationship.
He insisted that the way he dealt with Sinn Fein was the same as it had always been - but admitted there had been "miracles he could chuckle over".
The 140-strong gathering included Policing Minister Paul Goggins, Northern Secretary Shaun Woodward and former NIO Agriculture Minister Lord Alf Dubs.
Mr Paisley told the bemused crowd: "All I can say is that I am a naturally happy person and I'm not going to let anyone, including Martin McGuinness, take that from me."
He called for extra funding for the province from Westminster and for Corporation Tax to be brought in line with the Republic, as well as demanding the disbanding of the IRA's Army Council.
And he criticised the lack of investment at the Giant's Causeway as a disaster.
On devolution of policing powers, he insisted that Northern Ireland should not be rushed on the issue, adding: "I want to see it happen when the people of Northern Ireland are ready for it to happen.
"I don't think that rushing is good in politics.
"This is not the time, our party has not changed one iota.
"Deadlines are a bad thing in politics.
"I believe in achieving what has to be done."
Martin Lindsay, editor of the Belfast Telegraph, also spoke at the event. He said that Northern Ireland was enjoying the fruits of power-sharing.
He added: "The political landscape of Northern Ireland has been transformed over the last 12 months.
"We have moved from conflict to power-sharing.
"It has been akin to riding a political roller coaster.
"I really ask, where can you find two parties anywhere in the world that are so diametrically opposed?"

Tuesday, 15 May 2007 Papal Power - Posted by: Voice 4 Democracy
"I'm the Pope" declared Ian Paisley a number of years ago on the news media, referring to his absolute and sole power to rotate ministerial posts amongst the DUP in the last Stormont Assembly. A more accurate description of himself he could not have given when his editorials in the Revivalist, the Official Organ of the Free Presbyterian Church have been analysed.
Take for example the latest one, May 2007, by the RT. HON. DR. IAN R K PAISLEY (popes have lofty titles and yet profess humility simultaneously). The article headed "God-appointed, God anointed LEADERSHIP". Now the Pope - the one in Rome that is - claims to be supreme ruler of earthly power and spiritual power. Papa Paisley seems to be doing the same here as God's appointed and God's anointed. Pope's have enormous power-otherwise they are not popes at all.
Two powers are illustrated: One is the monopoly of biblical interpretation and application. The Pope must interpretate Holy Scripture to bolster his position as pope. Example, Revivalist editorial April 1994, title "Beware of Peace", Revivalist editorial Dec 2006 "I am for peace, but when I speak they are for war."
A second trait of a pope is the power to denounce and invoke the judgment of God on those who dare to oppose him. (You may have committed the most heinous of crime such as murder but its' when you oppose a Pope, that is when you are in trouble. No Pope will be humbled before a fellow man.) As Papa Paisley alludes, in the May 2007 editorial, referring to Numbers chapter 12. God smites Miriam with leprosy for being critical of Moses and the true intent of this criticism is to usurp Moses' position of authority. The point that the editor of the Revivalist fails to see from this chapter is that the character of Moses is upheld by God, "Now the man Moses was very meek, above all men which were upon the face of the earth." Moses did not launch into a tirade of Popish anathemas. Moses remained completely silent. Only God spoke in defence of this most meek of men. As for usurping Dr. Paisley's position, who would want a position that is twined to a murderer? Perhaps Peter Rob. Colonel Lundy is a bit late.
Another worthy observation of Moses and Dr. Paisley is that both men had two sons. The two sons of Moses were neither promoted by God nor pushed forward by their father. If only the same could be truthfully said of the other "appointed" and "anointed" leader, Dr. Paisley. In fact God promoted the family of that "usurper" Aaron, see 1 Chro. 23 v13.
Another scriptural quote by the Doctor in the same article is from Matt. 10 v36 "And a man's foes shall be they of his own household." Quoted in Dec 2006 as well as May 2007 Revivalist editorials. These are the words of the Lord Jesus Christ himself, and the greatest enemy Christ had in His household was a man prepared to sell his Master for thirty pieces of silver. Was not Ian Paisley heard lately in interview saying that if more money was not forthcoming from Gordon Brown there would be no powering sharing government. And that government includes the unrepentant unpunished IRA army council members. Popes in the past are noted for their avarice tactics of extracting money.
Then there was the claim that he (the Protestant Pope), would not meet the other Pope from Rome if the latter came to Northern Ireland. That fits in well with historical popery when two reigning Popes could not stand the sight of one another but hurdled abuse at each other from afar. "Neither of the twine would meet." That head of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster would meet the Head of the Rome Catholic Church is unlikely. But then we seem to remember one pope saying "Never Never Never Never" to Dublin influence, and Dublin rule was always seen as Rome Rule. Now that unity in the earthly realm has arrived, unity in the spiritual realm may not be too far away.
It was noted in the press that the last Pope (of Rome) might have stepped down because of his ailments and advancing age, but he clung onto power to the end. This present Pope-the one in Ulster-is determined to do the same both in Church and in State.

I went to the Monarch 20 Chess site out of curiosity. I was hoping to find out how you fared in the tournament, but was unable to find your name listed, and I believe I searched the site pretty extensively.
I did locate a picture of a "coach trip" and rolled my mouse over each of the faces and found one distinguished looking fellow, with white hair, and sunglasses", who appeared somewhat reluctant to have his picture taken. The caption on this gentleman's photo read: "apology - unable to identify as yet", or words to that effect. Is that you and is Sam Flanagan your real name?
I did not play in any of the tournaments. I just watched. My friend Michael Watters acheived some good results. Regarding the coach trip it is definetly not me, did not take part in the coach trip.

U-turn forced Paisley to quit
by Alana Fearon
New Rules
And he foresees a new rule forbidding all elders and ministers from becoming involved in the political arena after Paisley steps down in January.
“He has undermined his principles and his followers and now he has to pay the price.”
Mr Smyth admitted Paisley's decision to step down after 56 years was a “very sad and sorry state of affairs”.

Storm over Junior Minister rumbles on
Thursday, September 20, 2007
SDLP MLA John Dallat last night said: "It's time for the Minister to make a full disclosure on his lobbying on behalf of his party colleague."

"THE END IS NEAR"
The end that is sweeping the country.
PUTTING THE PROTEST BACK IN PROTESTANT!
The Big Protester gets protested by the Protestants . . .
Yours sincerely,
Rev Barry Galbraith (Moderator) Rev Philip Murphy (Acting Clerk)

Wait and see, says Paisley on church role
[Published: Tuesday 25, September 2007 - 13:35]

Papal Power - Posted by: Voice 4 Democracy
Two powers are illustrated:
One is the monopoly of biblical interpretation and application.
"Neither of the twine would meet."
That head of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster would meet the Head of the Rome Catholic Church is unlikely.

Sam:
I went to the Monarch 20 Chess site out of curiosity. I was hoping to find out how you fared in the tournament, but was unable to find your name listed, and I believe I searched the site pretty extensively.
I did locate a picture of a "coach trip" and rolled my mouse over each of the faces and found one distinguished looking fellow, with white hair, and sunglasses", who appeared somewhat reluctant to have his picture taken. The caption on this gentleman's photo read: "apology - unable to identify as yet", or words to that effect. Is that you and is Sam Flanagan your real name?
How did you fare in the tournament?
otobanonymous
I did not play in any of the tournaments. I just watched. My friend Michael Watters acheived some good results. Regarding the coach trip it is definetly not me, did not take part in the coach trip.
