The people of Appalachia are largely the descendants of the Scots/Irish who emigrated from N.Ireland. Unfortunately they have been "deprotestantised" and have very little understanding of their history or purpose in life. Their drug addiction and poverty is not an accident, it has been brought about deliberately.
This is one of the main purposes of the "peace-process" in N.Ireland, to deprotestantise and destroy.
