The expectation of an apology from the British government about the circumstances surrounding McGurk`s bar will help to distort truth. Shortly after the bombing the IRA shot a British army Major Snow in Hillman st. He died a few days later. There will be no apology for this. Serious attacks on Protestant areas around N.Queen st, Lepper st and Hallidays road occurred in the aftermath of the bombing.
The next day a young Roman Catholic called Hooky Nolan was murdered by Republicans in the Markets area. This added to the growing suspicions that the bomb was an "own goal". It was widely suspected Nolan was shot for failing to collect the bomb before it exploded.
It is becoming more obvious as time goes by if the truth about what went on in N.Ireland over the past 30 years ever comes out, there will be a lot of people in high positions at the moment who will have to flee for their lives.
